The UK elderly care industry is huge and growing rapidly. People need extra care and support for a variety of reasons, such as old age, physical disability, dementia or sensory impairment. Moving out of your home to receive care is a huge step, and many prefer to remain in their own home where they feel the most comfortable.

The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) predicts that 57% more adults aged 65 and over in England will require care in 2038 compared to 2018, so the opportunity is huge.

In 2023, there were 11 million people aged over 65 in England. This is projected to increase by 10% in the next five years and by 32% by 2043 (1.1 and 3.5 million people, respectively). Prash and Karen Patel re-branded their existing business as Nurse Next Door in 2023 having successfully grown their Home Care business which they co-founded in 2014.

​

With a passion for service and quality, Nurse Next Door’s philosophy of care centred around Happier Ageing™ and Making Lives Better ties in perfectly with their own core values.

​

They are both Qualified Ophthalmic Opticians and Karen is also a Qualified Audiologist and owned 4 very successful Specsavers businesses. Their passion for providing the best possible service created by developing a great working environment and culture, which bore fruit in 23 customer service awards, including coming top in the UK in 2008 after 8 rounds of mystery shopper visits.

​

Their entrepreneurial time at Specsavers spanned 23 years to 2020, during which time they helped the brand become the number one in the market and enabled them to develop numerous, invaluable business skills that have propelled their Home Care business to success.

When Prash & Karen aren’t working, they love spending time with their 4 children.

Karen has worked in the healthcare industry for almost 30 years, her direct involvement of working with and caring for customers both as a qualified Ophthalmic Optician and as a qualified Audiologist has enabled her to understand the importance of customer care including the care of the whole family.

​

Being the owner of four very successful Specsavers businesses allowed the development of the best possible service by progressing great teams and a company culture, affording many customer service awards, whilst supporting others to succeed and develop into the best versions of themselves.

​

Karen co-founded a family run Home Care business in 2014 with her husband, and with the help of an amazing team the business has been successfully grown to the point they have now rebranded in 2023 to Nurse Next Door and have introduced Happier Ageing™ and Making Lives Better which fully co-insides with the existing core values of the company.

​

When not working Karen has fun helping to bring up her four children which she states are her absolute rock.

​
